Paola Pappacena si è diplomata in illustrazione per l'infanzia alla Scuola del Fumetto di Milano nel 2004. Ha avviato il suo percorso artistico collaborando con compagnie di teatro ragazzi, per le quali ha realizzato scenografie, locandine, percorsi didattici e laboratori creativi nelle scuole e nelle pinacoteche.
Come illustratrice ha lavorato con diverse case editrici — tra cui Gribaudo, NoBorders Publishing, Fulmìno Edizioni, La maison est en carton e Terre di mezzo — e ha sviluppato progetti con RaiPlaySound, il Museo civico di Morbegno e Legambiente. Le sue opere sono state esposte anche presso la Galleria Robillard di Parigi.
Da anni intreccia il proprio lavoro con quello di artisti, musicisti, pedagogisti e teatranti, accomunati dall'interesse per la didattica rivolta alla primissima infanzia. In collaborazione con l'associazione Musicali si Cresce ha ideato laboratori e materiali illustrati per bambini, genitori ed educatori.
Appassionata di natura e didattica, organizza camminate all'aria aperta in cui sperimentare pratiche artistiche e narrative. Da queste esperienze sono nati corsi di formazione per insegnanti, incentrati su outdoor education e su percorsi di illustrazione e narrazione in natura per adulti e bambini.
Ama stare nel bosco e disegnare all'aria aperta. Appena può cammina in montagna e osserva il mondo da lassù.
Paola Pappacena graduated in children's illustration from the Scuola del Fumetto in Milan in 2004. She began her artistic path collaborating with children's theatre companies, for which she created set designs, posters, educational programmes and creative workshops in schools and art galleries.
As an illustrator she has worked with several publishers — including Gribaudo, NoBorders Publishing, Fulmìno Edizioni, La maison est en carton and Terre di mezzo — and has developed projects with RaiPlaySound, the Morbegno Civic Museum and Legambiente. Her works have also been exhibited at the Galerie Robillard in Paris.
For years she has woven her work together with that of artists, musicians, pedagogists and theatre-makers, united by a shared interest in early childhood education. In collaboration with the association Musicali si Cresce, she has designed workshops and illustrated materials for children, parents and educators.
Passionate about nature and education, she organises outdoor walks where artistic and narrative practices are explored in the open air. From these experiences she has developed training courses for teachers, focused on outdoor education and on illustration and storytelling in nature for both adults and children.
She loves being in the forest and drawing outdoors. Whenever she can, she walks in the mountains and observes the world from above.
